Our Community Animals

Volunteering at our Shelter

Humane Society of St. Thomas

The shelter is a place where dozens of animals are spending their days in crates and kennels.   If they are lucky, they will get out once a day.

If you have some time to share, please consider spending time with one, or many of the incarcerated animals.  Volunteers are welcomed for dog walking, socializing with,  laundry angel, fostering or adopting an animal.  Full list of volunteer opportunities can be found here.

Click here and scroll down to see some of their currently adoptable animals

The shelter has a very small staff.  Upon trying to call, email or visit them, you may not find someone in ideal community-relations form.  Please help them help our island animals, by reading ahead on their website, Facebook page, and dog walking volunteer manual in the link below.  So that you can show up informed, and ready to help the animals, and strive for the best possible experience for all.

HSSTT Dog walking Volunteer Manual

A cat house volunteering manual is in the works.  In the meantime you can ask a HSSTT cat house staff member how you can help.  Or consider volunteering with the on-island cats that are not living at the shelter:

and please support our

Hotel Partners that Participate in the Cat Cafe Program*

N.B. Several of the hotels are no longer funding the cafe's since 2017 (since they have closed down, etc.), those have been taken over by Lucky Paws Foundation.   Please contact Lucky Paws directly to chip in for the wonderful work they are doing on a daily basis for our local stray cats, and island animals.

The animals thank you!
